Get up to 3.05% on your savings in OCBC 360 Account

$

0

Barely a few days after covering the DBS Multiplier Account, OCBC has come up with a rival product to capture this market share.

By offering up to 3.05% p.a., OCBC is no doubt the best in the market, but what are the T&Cs?

ocbc3601. You need to credit minimum $2000 to your salary per month to qualify for that 1%

2. Get an additional 1% when you pay 3 bills per month online or through GIRO

3. Spend a minimum of $400 per month across all the OCBC Credit Cards

Others:

A. The bonus interest is for the first $50000 only. For the rich, look for better accounts elsewhere.

B. Initial deposit of $1000, and $3000 minimum per month or a $2 fall below fee will be charged each month (waived for first month)

All in all, this OCBC 360 account is one of the best programmes that have been created amongst its fellow competitors including Stanchart’s Esaver and DBS Multipler. So long as you earn a regular salary of $2000 (after CPF deductions), you get a base interest of 1.05%. The credit card spending of $400/month is easier to attain compared to Stanchart’s bonussaver $500/month (1.88% p.a.). What’s more, if you are an OCBC Frank card user, you get 6% a month on online spending for the first $1000, so spend wisely and get rewarded! Last but not least, if you pay your credit card bills online through OCBC, these are considered bill payments as well, so most people I know should be able to achieve 3.05% p.a.!

Mcdonalds Singapore has released a new app that rewards users who use the alarm everyday. All you need is a data connection when the alarm rings and you will be credited with a reward, which is only valid once a day. Each freebie is valid for 2 days and does not require any minimum purchase, so do download it if you use your handphone as an alarm clock, and remember to switch off the silent mode! So far, I have seen french fries, coke, apple pies on their rewards list. Wonder if there will be more in future? :) unnamed

Which credit card offers the best rebates for supermarkets? Version 2

$
0
0

The last article was written in Nov 12, and it has been almost 1.5 years where they have been some changes in the major players as Carrefour has moved out of Singapore and all Shop n Save outlets have been rebranded under Giant. During the previous review, Maybank Family & Friends and Sheng Siong Diner Card stood out for their ease of use. What about now?

Looking at the table below, one will notice there have been quite a few additions. ANZ has expanded the grocery rebate to all of its cards. Citibank Dividend has also included a 3-5% rebate on grocery shopping recently, probably one of its first steps towards streamlining its many credit cards. DBS has teamed up with SAFRA to offer 3% rebate for shopping at supermarkets with a minimum purchase of $500 per month. HSBC Premier and Visa Infinite have also included an awesome 10% rebate for grocery shopping. POSB Everyday has switched from Carrefour to Sheng Siong after the former has left Singapore. And last but not least, UOB has come up with a Delight card for loyal Dairy Farm customers.

supermarket1supermarket2

As mentioned in the previous post, the card to use would depend on one’s spending habits – where you spend and how much you spend. There are another 2 excellent cards to own and use but are not captured in the table above as they are not credit cards.

1) McDonalds NETS Flashpay card

Previously mentioned in my post here, it gives a 5% rebate at NTUC and Sheng Siong with a minimum spend of $30 per month, and capped at $10/card/month i.e. max spending $200/mth

2. PAssion ez-link Card (only $12 for 5 years)

Every $1 spent at Dairy Farm Group allows one to get 1 TapForMore Point. All points will expire by 31 December that year but one is given an additional 6 months for redemption (exchange rate 1500points – $10 i.e. 0.67% rebate)

Find out more here

My take on the best cards for each supermarket chain

1. NTUCMcDonalds Flashpay card (5%) if you spend less than $200/month. Others are subject to minimum spending and whether the merchant accepts credit card payment (usually only Finest and X-tra only). Use your NTUC Plus Card to collect link points as well.

2. Cold Storage (and Dairy Farm group) – HSBC Premier Mastercard or Visa Infinite if you can meet the minimum spending of $600/month on anything to get 10% rebate (which is the best in the market) or UOB Delight to get 10% rebate if you spend above $1000 that month. For fuss free purchase, use McDonalds Flashpay to get 5%, and pair it with PAssion ez-link Card to get TapForMore points.

3. Sheng SiongPOSB Everyday Card is clearly a winner with 5% rebate and no minimum spending.

I first wrote about the Imagine card previously in Jan 13 when it was first launched as there was a free $5 credit and rebate when one buys the season pass. Subsequently, there was not much interest since the perks were quite mediocre, until they launched a campaign recently.

Get 5% Rebate on all taxi rides with NETS FlashPay! Till 31 Dec 14

$

netstaxirebateSounds simple enough? All valid FlashPay Cards can be used to earn the 5% rebate on taxi fares, so the best would probably be using the OCBC Frank card which doubles up as a NETS FlashPay card as you get 6% when you do an auto-top up of $50, and an additional 5% rebate when you spend on taxi fares! Just remember to spend the minimum of $30 per month (there is a $0.30 Nets Flashpay surcharge per transaction), and there is a cap of $10 per card per month (i.e. max spend of $200/mth). As stated in the pictures, you need to manually claim your rebate, so do not forget! Read the full T&Cs here

The cheapest movie tickets in Singapore Version 3 and the ultimate movie cheat sheet

$
0
0

Barely 10 months ago, I updated version 2 of the guide to the cheapest movie tickets in Singapore, and now it’s time to make some updates as the cinemas have increased the prices of the movie tickets and a lot of the existing promotions have lapsed.

Many years ago, Cathay used to be my favourite cinema as they had an excellent promotion with UOB then and movie tickets were just $6.50, then the promotion ended, and GV started the HSBC-GV prepaid card that were the next best thing as movies cost $7.50 each. Now, this card has been replaced by 2 separate versions – for Mon-Thursday and the other for All Days (well almost, since Xmas, NY and CNY D1 and D2 are excluded).

After scouting through the list, it seems like there are some pretty good 1-for-1 deals now. The SAFRA promotion is good for weekends at Shaw since each movie ticket costs $5.50 only, and the Nets Flashpay 1-for-1 at Cathay is good for all day using the coupon on the app. M1 users can also choose to watch in Cathay on weekends since it is 1-for-1 but just a small note, its 2D movie ticket prices are slightly higher than Shaw’s.

For 3D Movies, the brainless thing to do is to use the ANZ GV Prepaid card, but that has been out of stock for many months. SAFRA Moviemax members can get a small discount at Shaw as well.
moviesv3

The ultimate movie cheat sheet was created by Mr Soh Zi Haur, and it is a more comprehensive list that what I have compiled. If you have elderly folks and students and wish to compare the prices, then please refer to the tables below as I have excluded them from my own table to reduce the clutter (Filmgarde has no promotions with anyone so the student promotion was included in my table :))

During this same time last year, I compiled a similar list of shopping malls with rewards for the wise shoppers and the list of malls are around the same. It’s great to see that the Orchard malls promotion is still ongoing this year, but hurry as the promotion is ending.spring2014mall

Missed the recent Mi festival? There were some unhappy customers due to payment issues but oh well, people are still choking their servers when the clock strikes. This time should be easier with 7500 sets. Interested parties should bookmark their facebook page and watch for promotions! Im amazed at how fast their facebook likes have grown, from 16k last month to 27k now. And the good thing is they do monitor their FB page and reply to customers requests and complaints. Thumbs up to Xiaomi!

FYI, 2 of Xiaomi’s phones are in the top 10 list of best selling smartphones globally for the month of February 2014. The cheaper Redmi is ranked #7 and the more power Mi3 is ranked #10. Do note that Xiaomi is only limited to China, HK, Taiwan and Singapore. Check out the report from HWZ here

Once again, the steps to follow:

1. Sign up for a Xiaomi account at http://account.xiaomi.com/

2. Set your alarm on your phone to ring on 8 Apr 0955am

3. Logon to http://www.xiaomi.com/sg and wait to purchase

4. Once loaded into your cart, proceed to checkout with paypal (you do not need a paypal account, just a credit card will do)

5. You can buy another one once you checkout and pay. (But you really have to be quick and load that the page does not crash – which happens very often)

6. Delivery by UPS happens within a week.

Watsons Elite members sale on 23 Apr 14 and VIP members sale on 24 Apr 14 – 8% rebate with Citibank!

$

I didn’t know Watsons had this Elite members card until I saw this promotion. A quick search revealed that there was a promotion in January this year when Watsons VIP members with 5 transactions on different days amounting to $500 were eligible for the upgrade. Now, these selected group of shoppers get to attend the members sale one day earlier.

The Watsons member sale is quite a popular event as the store is usually thronged by a large crowd inside the shop and flanked by long queues outside the shop but it is something I look forward to as there are additional rebates on credit cards (previously 6% rebate with POSB everyday card) and free vouchers with a certain minimum spending.

This time around, they have paired up with Citibank Dividend card and giving a whopping 8% rebate with a minimum $50 spent! And a $20 voucher and a free mini tote bag is yours with $250 spent! Don’t forget to set your alarm for tomorrow!

GV has had this promotion for quite some time, where they show a movie that’s yet to be released onto the big screen. The theme is Crime/Thriller so shouldn’t be too boring?
